I literally have nightmares about accidentally using the wrong bathroom and no one noticing!
or I end up trapped in a stall hoping it’ll empty out again, and since it’s a dream the bathroom gets progressively more broken and disgusting and fewer stalls are working over time or somehow bathrooms are unisex, but only guys are in them and…

Oh god that would scare me so much being in that changing room and as trans as well. It's scary enough to use the different bathrooms.

Nopenopenope. Not going into that changing room! No way in hell, no way on earth!
I hate it I hate knowing she had to use it I hate Japanese laws as they are…
Exactly!! I'm still waiting for unisex bathrooms in other places too.

Yeah kinda unfortunate, I thought they were gonna change in the rental car or something tho, so a little confused
If they’d gone to the beach then they could have just shown up in their suits and maybe a cover-up.
You can’t really get away with walking around that immodestly-dressed in Japan.
A cis guy in trousers and no shirt is scandalous.

Now, factor in the fact that Japan has women-only train cars because women get treated like objects to the point that they’re sexually assaulted in public and…
Yeah. Don’t wanna walk around in a bikini at night in Japan. Don’t wanna walk around at night in Japan unless you’re in a groups and/or with guys.

Not in a rush to get back there, personally!

Hell, I don’t know if they’d honour the f on my passport! That’s gonna send me back to “be dehydrated so I don’t have to pee” and exacerbate my eating disorder on top of a diet of smoked fish and fresh plants (because I keep kosher and many things have pork, eel or seafood. Kosher is wierd).

at least when I lived in The Cities I could find a Target pretty easily back when HRT and laser weren’t a thing yet… To live in a place I could be arrested for needing to have a shit is nightmarish.

this is a long ass edit.

Tbh break the law.

Dunno if the comic is allowed to show it but yeah.

Unisex changing rooms exist but are pretty rare. (I love them tho)

Yeah, you’d need to find a department store, really. “Multi-purpose room” as it were, which sounds suss as hell. 😝
Back when I had zero chance of passing I had an app to tell me where it was safe.
MN is the safest state for trans people, but anxiety doesn’t always make sense.
And yeah, I’d break the law, because fuuuuck it, but having anxiety about that becoming an issue in like, rural Okayama or something Would suck.

They showed it right at the top of the series, too.

An app? That's lovely that such a thing exists now. I used to help make maps for my local queer orgs with "family" and "unisex" bathrooms and locker rooms marked. Irrc we posted them as PDFs online.

Its definitely scary the first few times even when you know you're probably not in danger.

Like I said, I went to Target.
…though I did use the family restroom there for a bit.

I can’t imagine what it took to deal back when one had to live as their gender for two years before any medical intervention…
Hmm. That may still have been the case in my area when I first thought about transitioning. Like 97~99. I was wearing women’s clothing (though it was still shirts and trousers) and trying to stunt physical development with an eating disorder I still struggle with.
I had a name (Stephanie) picked out, but ultimately didn’t use that.
Glad of that. Friend of a friend (whom I met just a few years ago) is “Steph” and I’d have had to use some alias on my friend’s podcast as it would have been confusing, because they mention Steph often.

Not on that ‘cast anymore… I am so high right now.
