Eh? We aren't going to find out why he failed?

Probably within the next chapter or two, but why would people wait for that before pulling a "Ugh, dropped"? After all, I've seen "We couldn't actually teach him anything, but we didn't tell him that" (variant 1), or "Noble politics, bay-beee!" (variant 2), "We don't want the school to be destroyed" (variant 3, p. rare), "The secretary had some kind of personal beef (and was fired the moment people realised)" (also p. rare)... Oh, and "We know damn well he's powerful, which would get in the way of us, the demons secretly controlling the academy and trying to fail everyone powerful to weaken humanity" (extremely rare.) All variations on a basic theme. Like a lot of fiction.

...I genuinely don't get the folks who do that. Especially on a first chapter.

You’re missing the obvious variant: “We thought he was bullshitting on his exam”. That’s what happened in the shota one that got an anime, and in the level 99 villainess, which I’d consider to be the only two interesting entrants.

Anyhow, there’s still a chance we get nuanced character interactions, but it’s pretty slim already judging by dense goofball MC and stereotypical cocklord noble.

I assume it's a misunderstanding based on his paperwork, like when the test giver asked if he made any mistakes... probably messed up writing his name of something.

Wtf are you expecting anyway when 2 out of 3 authors of this manga are known for they fuckton of other works with pretty much the same trope. So it's confirmed that putting two person that does copy paste to work together doesn't mean they can make a new, creative manga.
