Don't you need a valid credit card to rent a car? That also allows the rental company to cover extra expenses. For example, at least over here, it's quite typical you get the car with a full tank, but you must also return the car with a full tank, otherwise filling it up will also be charged from your credit card. While car rental companies naturally have their own insurances, it's not like they would love to lose their cars, as that would ultimately drive the insurance costs through the roof. So, they won't rent a car to a random high school kid with nothing but a driver's license to show for their credibility, I'd imagine. In the digital world, you can't exactly forge a credit card, either.
