Ideally we'd be able to only link to chapters that are fully available with no accounts, but I don't think their API (we had to guess the endpoints and response shapes) has a way to display that information for us to be able to correctly filter out links...I suggest removing Manga Up! global since to read chapters past the first one, you need an account and to create an account you need to download their mobile app and create one there before they allow you to sign in via browser. https://global.manga-up.com/login
It's been in a planning stage since 2023 back when we started outlinking to Shueisha's MangaPlus releases.More official links is generally a good thing. Adding a bot to streamline updates is also a good thing
...but
Flooding the updates feed is always a bad user experience and ultimately counterproductive. Users get pissed and block the officials, other users stop using the website at least temporarily to avoid the flood, and every single series (official or not) posting an update runs a high risk of not being seen. And thus the website is worse off because it's now less reliable and far fewer people will see the officials.
This exact situation has cropped up many times before so now it feels like a deliberate choice by MD to roll out the initial wave of updates in the worst way possible. I'm not saying it is deliberate, but a mea culpa isn't exactly going to feel genuine either.
Edit: or least add a big ol prominent ahemnotice letting folks know why things are and an ETA...
And yeah, we know that when backfilling new sources, the chapters showing up in the feed is... not ideal... (to say the least)
If anyone reading this is interested, please upvote the following suggestion regarding silent uploads so the devs put it higher in the feature roadmap: https://forums.mangadex.org/threads...ent-attribute-to-new-chapter-uploads.1766942/
That "silent uploads" feature would allow for less annoying outlinks by avoiding these chapters in the recent uploads feed.
