well, it does have the girls love tag. maybe it's not considered shoujo/josei b/c of the male main chara or the mangaka made it in mind for male audiences to read?

unless it's just a parody tho idk if a male reader would enjoy it as much as opposed it to being a full on yuri love triangle b/c i can imagine some would be irritated if MC 'won' in the end

Assuming you meant shoujo (manga for girls) instead of shoujo ai (a bad old fashioned term for non-adult yuri): this author actually is a long running Shoujo author and only relatively recently got this series in a shounen mag. The demographics tags have been rapidly growing meaningless except as a vague indication of audience age but not gender or anything else, so it's not really surprising.
I'd recommend anyone else enjoying this manga to check out her older work, especially Usotsuki Lily and Kami-sama no Ekohiiki, her other prominently queer series (although none of her work is particularly hetero-standard lol)
