Yeah this is too much of an understanding for me, these 2 girls were having their brethren chopped of and sold like merchandise and they’re about to get their redemption served just like that. This chapter’s talk no justu only worked cuz she’s a cute girl. What’d she have done if the bat girl was a buff dude instead ? Seems shallow for me. The redemption arc was not needed here imo. And seems that the rabbit girl will have it too…

It literally runs in Sunday Webry, the online edition of the same manga magazine that publishes Detective Conan, Frieren, Silver Mountain and Sleepy Princess in Demon Castle, and previously published Inuyasha, Call of the Night, Ariadne in the Blue Sky and Komi Can't Communicate. I don't know what else you expected.

tl;dr This is published in an online shonen magazine, stop expecting darker or more adult stuff just because it's essentially an all-ages reboot of the author's old porn doujinshi.

I think the artist is the one that published porn doujinshi, the writer is a different person tho. But yea, I agree that it is in the same magazine as Detective Conan, typical shounen story should be expected.

If she had come to any sort of realization about her actions maybe I'd feel differently I'd feel a little differently but her moment of "redemption" being about how she can opportunistically choose a better more comfortable life for herself explicitly because she's pretty is even more tone deaf than I expected.

I mean sure she choose to change sides out convinience, but that's still a first step for her to realize her wrongs, I wouldn't exactly expect the girl that was mutilating kids to save her ass completely change her perspective after a 5 minutes or less speech

also take into account that this is Quna we are talking about, the girl with a golden heart in the order, kagura, raito, cattleya, liona, etc, will most likely not be as merciful as her, this scenario could easly end in a "you can comeback to be my model after some time of social work/jail : D"

You mention Frieren in same magz with Kaguraito, Weekly Shounen Sunday.

Frieren has no chill to demon, even the most peaceful duel ending like Denken vs Macht, Denken doesn't hesitate to kill shot.

You just put the standard bar too high and this series looks so inferior

The backstory feels too shallow in this one. She needs to fix this.

The problem is you're just gesturing toward a bunch of hypotheticals that only exist in your head but are nowhere in the story itself. The series so far actually consistently reinforces the idea that Ninyou are a lesser race and harming them isn't that bad or even outright excusable.

I have been anticipating and dreading this outcome because I saw hints of subtext that value status, and whether a Ninyou is victimized versus a human (and hotness I guess) as qualities that recieve more mercy but I wouldn't have planted a flag on that hill especially since the explicit text is at least trying to say the opposite. But this latest example is so fucking egregious that I can't pretend anymore.
