@Greyvenn It's a little confusing, yes, but basically what's explained here is that due to Iino's stage fright, the results of the audience laughing at her would have happened anyway. Ishigami wants Shirogane to win by a landslide so that Iino's poor performance wouldn't become a main topic of the school. If Shirogane's performs averagely, then Iino would likely become a talking point among the students and further her humiliation.

I understand his logic, but it's still faulty. Shirogane winning by a ridiculous margin is not going to keep people from laughing at her. They're not laughing due to her losing. They're laughing because they don't like her. They're just using an opportunity as a reason (or more accurately: an excuse). They'll find another excuse, or just make up one.
