It's still a date-rape drug, it's just not a poison. That's my argument. Having a drug that puts people to sleep that isn't a poison technically can be justified. That's the entire argument.
(Also, a roofie is a specific thing and not a catch-all term for any date-rape drug that puts you to sleep so I think that's where we got a bit confused. Having a magical drug that puts people to sleep is not the same as the modern invention of a roofie, which could only come about at a time with advanced chemistry and medicine. Suspension of disbelief partially relies on in-universe justifications. Sure something SIMILAR to a roofie could exist, but not the over the counter medicine we think of nowadays.)
