Yknow, the parents in this town ... I don't see them showing up, and the absence makes me wonder - if these are spectres that can communicate & enter into pseudo-contracts, where sacrifice are rewarded (as shown by the last few chapters) - do the parents stand to benefit here? Naming your children like that seems like less of a quirky superstition, and more like naming a pet chicken "Dinner". And this chapter in particular makes me think, if death can be reversed, can you really die in this town? What comes after?

The easy answer is "it's hard to move" but I also think it's part stockholder syndrome.

Like you look at accounts of older freak shows and there's a ton of acts that obviously wouldn't fly today because it's obviously just someone with a rare physical disability or something.
