This is beginning to remind me of that mermaid story that was supposedly about yuri, then ended up being more about horror and tragedy, with the girls just being the "victim of the week".

I can't remember the name, I remember that the mermaid girl brainwashed her victims and turned them into mermaids too.

And that she ate a cat in a scene.

Edit:Found it, it was this one, I am starting to see a lot of parallels to this story in how it became more horror than yuri.

I like how Furuka somehow misses every single chance to mention Kon. Like this chapter alone she's even on panel and Furuka's thoughts never even acknowledged it :kek:

Wasn't there a girl who looked like Kon from a photo from way back too? This?

Maybe who we know as Kon is that original sacrificed girl or a recreation and used like a lure by the monster over the years? Or perhaps not a lure or anything malicious but it's only way to interact with humans using the one it was given. Plus it's protective of them with those super power "wind gusts". That grandmother with the journal fell in love then escaped the cave and so did the protagonist.

It will be nice if it's peaceful Harem instead of dramatic love triangle or heartbreak, but I know the later one will be the truth 🥲

The motives of the monster seems twisted, both acting on Furuka’s will with the strong gust, as well as hoarding Kon away, who just wishes Furuka to be safe. Problem is what is her family thinking, the world seems to have forgotten Kon, but she certainly seemed to have a life before Furuka showed up, right? Could be like Granblem tho. . .

Homophobic islanders chasing gay people into the underground. Awakening the monster as they do.
What if this is all some sort of "monster arising from the subconscious" thing. The islanders all try so hard to avoid and ignore it but cant change it naturally happening and thus banishing it to the caves. Out of sight, out of mind.
