@Vincentius oh I'm with you there, the fact the mc could hang with the demon crowd for as long as he did proves as much, making the humans v demons thing seem more like a dispute between neighboring countries rather than good v evil. thing is the previous chapter did nothing to show that he didn't want to do his job or was uncomfortable with treating the knockers cruelly. it's so jarring that this commander and the previous chapter's commander seem like different people altogether. they could've added some lines, maybe even some thoughts from the commander that would convey this being a job forced on him rather than something he's doing as gleefully as he seemed to be last chapter.
I get that this is kinda showing the struggle the demon side has with filling the void our mc left, but I think it could've been handled a little better
