She said much earlier that she's planning to become a gold digger with the next guy, who is the current guy, whom she ended up marrying. All the earlier guys were apparently superficial and only wanted to get into her panties, so she was planning to return the favour.

However, you are correct in the sense that later, on multiple occasions, her inner thoughts have suggested she's been a gold digger also earlier. I reckon it's a mistake by the author.

The shoe thing is dumb but as for caring that the MC noticed, that's a big deal because it means he's more caring and attentive than her previous boyfriends. By the way she tells it all the boyfriends she's had before have been superficial and selfish and only dated her because she's cute and because they wanted into her pants. Over the course of the series she's been confused by the fact that the mc has been nice to her without any ulterior motives and is falling for him because it's the first time she's been in a relationship where she's treated like a person and not a trophy/ sex object

No I get that, the guy is a good dude who really cares about his girlfriend. But I was just scratching my head over the fact that the shoe thing was so obvious. Like I feel anyone would notice someone wearing shoes that were completely different, and that she would care that her boyfriend noticed when she doesn't really care about him. Just seemed off.

If she had changed her hair slightly, and the boyfriend noticed, I'd get that would give her warm fuzzy feelings. But the shoe thing? She must of dated some real oblivious, scummy boyfriends in the past.

You kinda summed up my thoughts as well. I do like this but I'm not the biggest fan of stories that give us the outcome from the beginning. One could say this is a "not about the destination..." sort of situation; but even then it's hard to care. You're right in that a better structure would have made this a bit more palatable. But all we're left with is artificial progress that's borderline irrelevant when we as readers know how things end.

I get the distinct impression it was a short series or a few disconnected scene ideas that got turned into a longer series after the author kept getting ideas for new scenes. I don't think it was ever meant to be a continuous story.

That said, I don't dislike the kind of two-timeline storytelling.
