Ofc the trap is the femme-est character in this here crypto-yaoi Popsicle stand.
Either this is yaoi, in which case Akira is indistinguishable from a girl-character, or Akira is a guy in drag and Ibuki's a very masculine girl with a straight crush. Can't have it both ways.

YESSSSSSS! A CROSSDRESSING OJOU-SAMA!

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a crossdressing ojou-sama I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. (The other one is 'The Villainess Was a Boy All Along' which is, sadly, a oneshot.)

p5 - How does the "ship" joke work in Japanese? The equivalent is building a tower, right? So sightseeing to see a Kyoto tower?

"The fanclub is divided into two camps: those that love her and those that ship her with Tomo"

The Venn Diagram seems to be a perfect circle.

I was honestly about to get mad, I'm SO tired of that trope, it's one of my least favorite in all of manga and has made me drop countless romcoms. Dodged at the last second just barely.
Does being male really make that character type any less annoying?

Slightly, it's more the vile representation of lesbians as being this predatory man-hating annoying character that I take issue with. It's not really their actions per se, it's the fact that it's the same exact character over and over and it's pretty demeaning towards a specific group of people.

Similarly find the trap who acts the same towards the FL and is obsessed with the ML a terrible and demeaning character. The portrayal of LGBTQ people as these unreasonable predators towards straight people who they are obsessed with but who aren't interested is a common manga trope, and something I'm pretty much done with.

It's also really lazy, and a way to create "rival drama" but since it's same-sex and the MC isn't interested it doesn't offend the weak sensibilities of people who don't like seeing the main love interest have someone else wooing them that might actually be a true rival to the MC.

I actually took some liberty with this bit of the translation. The girls don't "ship" them in those words specifically. A more literal translation would be "...and those that enjoy [seeing] Ibuki and Tomo together." ("that enjoy the Ibuki and Tomo CP", to be ultra literal). I thought "ship" was fitting though, so I went with that.

Then on page 5, a more literal translation would be...
Tomo: What's "CP"?
Taka: ...It's short for "cup pudding"
Tomo: Oh~ So it's a pudding thing~"

Taka says it stands for "kappupurin" or "cup pudding.", but the real meaning is "coupling" ("kappuringu"). While calling two people a "couple" is a thing in English, we'd prefer to say "pairing" over "coupling" so I couldn't really use the joke as-is. That does mean that page 5 is completely fabricated, but the intent of deceiving Tomo to protect his innocence remains the same.

I could have done better. I apologize.

No need to apologize; I was just curious. I figured it wasn't a literal translation, and as you said, the literal translation doesn't really work, so localizing it is the right call.

Makes sense Himegaoka's from a yakuza fam if he can keep the overbearing fans of the fanclub in line :dogewow:
