Yes, it’s understandable for a parent to worry about his child future but it you can’t trust into your own kid potential… who will ?

Also, it’s okay, bro : he ain’t her boyfriend, just her soulmate husbando :meguusmug: Teeheehee !!

He is wrong tho. His argument rests on the idea that a mangaka's skillset isn't transferable to other fields, which is incorrect. Mangaka have to develop the same skillsets as both a writer and an illustrator at the same time, and there's plenty of jobs that demand the skills necessary for both. He's just stuck in the narrowminded perspective of a Japanese office drone
But an elite artist doesn’t necessarily translate to an elite writer. That’s just the truth. You can be a strong artist but writing doesn’t just require storyboarding, it requires vocabulary and syntax while developing a macro arc that’s consistent. In manga you can draw your way out of a corner, in a book… you’re using only words. So if you talk yourself into a corner, tough luck surviving the immersion break or rhetorical whiplash.

Above all else I'm glad that Dad listened, but I'm also happy that Uehara could put his foot down. He was trembling, overshadowed, clearly in the wrong and knew he was up for a scolding—he and Nina were both fresh out of middle school, for chrissake—but he still stood his ground.

Nina had spilled blood sweat and tears to prove her worth, and it paid off. She was good, enough to be professionally acknowledged, and she still decided to climb higher peaks. He actually managed to keep his word that he wouldn't let anyone trample on that.

And yeah, it's pretty cool that Dad actually reflected on it. Being stubborn had always been something of a thing with Showa Japanese men, what with their chauvinist outlook and all.

That was a neatly paced realization on his end.

Pretty cool sequence of chapters. Thanks for the TLs!

This is why I can't love this series, you have a very believable drama about a parent disapproving of their child's artist dream, but it only lasts 1 episode and a half, it was not really mentioned before, and probably not even the dad will show up again, just some made up drama to keep the story "intresting" without it being actually important for the story or characters.

It is done every time but it just feels so heart warming when the parents are cruel about their child's dream because its their baby and don't want them to suffer. But they end up letting them set off in their own path in life, so cute

Yeah bro corporate life is a lot better than mangaka's.:kek:
I'm sorry lil sis that your father is so stupid for drama purposes. There are gazzilion jobs involving drawing, she got it covered regardless.

I love this chapter. The Dad is not an asshole because of reasons, he just don't want to see his precious daughter hurt.

Thanks for the chapter!

Don’t worry Niina if the manga career doesn’t work out you can work 20-hour days in the anime industry making less than a Lawson’s cashier
