I'd think that too but the adventurer guy is also on the cover and with that ominous silhouette...I think this is a case of misdirection by the author.
Maybe the guy sounds like he's reading from a script because he's just the party idiot and they actually did give him a script.

Hmm. While it looks like the story is going the route of bandits faking their story, I think it would be interesting if there really was a monster.

It would also explain why the wolves started moving closer to the village. Something took their original territory.
Yea, I think there will be a monster, but the "adventures" have not seen it yet and wont before they attack the village to steal from it.

But it could be a hilarious twist if they were good guys who are just ugly and stupid.
Bullying the kids: playing with the kids "OMG you are so strong, you nearly broke my arm, amazing"
Lying about having found the monster: It's true
Taking stock of people: Super important to know who lives were in case the monster attacks the village early and they need to help evacuate women and kids.
Reading from a script: He is, they are aware that often their words gets misinterpreted, so they have a script for the counting of people, so to not make people scared or afraid.
Lying about having seen the monster: Trying to scare the boys away from being adventures since it's not a safe job, same reason he is not taking disciples.

Woah, the bearded guy's design seems to have changed a bit between the chapters. These guys are super shady, and I wonder how strong they actually are since they don't seem to be too worried after seeing the remnants of the tornado attack. They'll probably find out they're messing with the wrong village since Ren's there.
yeah, The past design made him look like a dwarf.

IRL, 'adventurers' were often just like this - looters looking to score big.
If you go to a museum that has South East Asian art, take a look at the statues - all of them are missing the feet, because some 'adventurer' stole them from a temple somewhere and had to break them off of the pedestal.

Turner/Tanya really love that fricking stick huh? :ROFLMAO:
Also are those adventurers bandits or something? Counting up villagers is mighty sus. MC and Wizard Oji-san can deal with them later.
Cartoonish (oh the irony of my complaint) villains aside, I guess the author doesn't know this, or can't imagine, a properly lumbered and squared plank of straight evenly grained hardwood would be incredibly valuable, not the throw-away garbage joke item the author believes it to be.

I'm a little disappointed with the miscreants, I feel like less would be more here

Yeah i was thinking man Turner you still have that stick?

SHE STILL HAVE THE PLANK WITH HER LMAOOOO
With everyone talking about the stuck . . . I must resist making a "Turner likes big 'sticks'" joke. Must resist.
