1€ meals? Very affordable! I think over here the cheapest you can expect in any kind of restaurant is about 12€, if you want something decent. Usually that’d be either a Chinese restaurant or an immigrant run kebab/pizza place. There are some places where you might get a pizza for 8€, but it’s not going to taste like anything. Any “normal” restaurant would be more like 20, fancy places starting from 40.

Japan is often regarded as an expensive place, so 2000 yen sounded very affordable.
