Well, now we know why the MC is such a doofus when it comes to common sense. His entire home environment made him that way.

It's kind of like how Megumin seems completely chuunibyou (to be fair, she is 13 when first introduced) but then when we finally meet the rest of the Crimson Demon Tribe we realise that she's actually quite grounded, even urbane, by their standards.
