The main problem with it is that the protagonist specifically doesn't seem to use his brain. In fact he doesn't appear to have one most of the time. When he does do something that makes you think he's gonna get smarter and grow as a character, he immediately backsteps to his old self. It's very frustrating to see a character seem to undergo much needed growth only for that to be reverted in the next scene. I bet you that this manga would have a much better rating if the protagonist wasn't so frustratingly stupid.
It would become the best drama ever if at some point he goes to the doctor and discovers he has a strange hereditary illness that resets his memories every few weeks.

Actually the best punishment for our MC might be to have that plus take Subarus place in Re:Zero :02:

True, and the way we see him do/think the same things over and over makes it seem like there is no progress, even though at some moments there are slight changes. But the way it's written does a great job hiding any progress/growth as much as possible and thus easy to miss

Authors in-ability to create changing character is so frustrating. Like any shyness and embarrassment goes away after doing something multiple times. Like going for a date the first 1st will make you awkward after that first time shyness will decrease substantially and this goes for other things too.
They've known each other for quite a while already yet he still acts shy, awkward and perverted (as if he saw her for the first time, dude saw her in bikini for crying it loud). It's not character growth even, it's basic HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY and authors fucking inability to show this is remarkable.

Maybe it's the author intention, he made it so bad that it end up become a legend :pacman:

Nope, it cannot become a legend since many author create the same type of manga. It doesn't have unique taste it's just same old run of the mil story with the same archetype characters.

the MC is still a fag, but in the last 3 issues, the plot thickens. Mizuhara is throwing very interesting questions around love and commitment.

I've never seen a more incompatible couple in the history of manga. If the main character has to struggle this much—like walking through a minefield—because the girl can end things with him at any moment, then it's clear they can't even last a week in a relationship. It's just too toxic. The mangaka has written both himself and the MC into a corner, making the girl so difficult to please. She's too indecisive and complicated.

If you truly love or care for someone, all you really need to do is look within yourself. There's no need for a "test run" after sharing so many intimate moments together. At this point, it would be more realistic for them to end up as friends because their relationship as a couple feels completely forced and fake, just there to serve the plot.

Anyway, catch you guys next week!
