Well, in terms of fiction tropes at least, it would be rather unusual for the reply to be anything other than the anticipated one, in these circumstances. So that lack of closure doesn't bother me overmuch.

Anyway: This is nice for the little snippet that it is. This territory's been tread before, a lot, but it did a good job of making the characters just real enough in their exchanges, to cut through just enough of the tropes, to pull one into the present moment despite the re-treading of old ground.
