The quality difference between the two translations is unreal I'd rather wait longer for a proper translation than whatever that other one is.

Thank you for your hard work!
I don't get it why some reader has the mentality of them having a right to demand for some series to be released as quickly as possible.
going as far as sniping a series. that's just rude.

@Dexthedexter It’s readers’ entitlement. They expected everything to be free and readily delivered on their plate. I doubt most of them even care that much about the series. If this manga is dropped by both scanlators, they will just move on to another manga without a care. Consumption over dedication.

Dosen't matter if the snipes come in first, definitely will reread for the better quality alone. Thanks for the hard work.

@kn1000a bruh no need to be rude, many of us ARE scanlators, i myself redraw, PR, and translate (sometimes all at the same time xD) an i can say that there have been times where ive picked up a series because people dropped it... so i suggest you not make random assumptions like that :/

He is asking why readers are rude, so I just reply a main reason why. You can’t deny that there ARE very many people who don’t appreciate the work and just trash on the scanlators whenever convenient. Happened all the time especially with time and sniping issues with big series.

It is also true many series are dropped and never picked up again. Good to know you try to pick up some of them, but still a fact that scanlation drama do burn out casual groups/individuals. The result is said manga being stuck forever. I also became a scanlator just to help out with people’s slow series.

Sure most people are nice, but don’t also disregard the ugly side of this community.

@kn1000a I see where you are coming from but I disagree with your initial comment here about readers not caring for a series. Putting aside the unnecessarilly haughty and vitriolic tone of it and speaking on the comment itself, if anything I would say that most people's (admittedly occasionally arrogant) demands for a new chapter are, in fact, more due to the love of a series and the anticipation of the next chapter. This is only exacerbated when the readership knows that there are currently raws of later chapters, sometimes entire volumes, that have simply not been translated.

While it's true that those of us with no experience in the scanlation process ourselves can sometimes seem demanding or ungrateful to those putting in the hard work, time, and effort to release a series, it is, if anything, due to our attachment to a series and not wanting it to be left in limbo as countless series have been. There are a number of series that I myself have gotten into reading, only to find out that 30 chapters in the scanlaters stopped the series, no one picked it up yet, and the last update was 11 months ago. That lack of closure, that feeling of being stuck on a narrative cliffhanger and knowing that you will likely never see the proceeding events, quite bluntly fucking sucks.

Also to keep at least a portion of this comment on topic for the series: This chapter was great, this series continues to be heartwarming and it's just feel-good from beginning to end. The best part about the premise is that theoretically the author can continue the series as long as he wants, so long as he still has ideas.

@Monochrome_Scholar Again, that comment is in reply to Dexthedexter. He commented on how unappreciated fans are, which is what my reply addressed. Of course it will sounds negative, because it is a negative subject.

What you described are more or less the different sides to an argument. I never said that this community is all bad. Hence the

Asking for a new chapter is all good. In fact, I would even encouraged any reader doing so for their favorite manga. It builds up expectation and motivation for the scanlators, that there are people who care about the series too. My initial reply was never directly about these people.

It's one thing to not know the in and out of scanlation therefore making unreasonable demands. That's fine, even I don't know how much time it takes to be doing x job, if i never even try x job in the first place. However, what I do dislike are people who don't care at all about how the series are translated, putting speed above all else. They also don't give a shit about people who are doing the scanlating for others; as long as there are speedy releases they're happy. If you are a diehard fan of the series, then surely you have the self-respect to choose quality over quantity right?

Why am I bashing sniping and speedy releases and their supporters so much? Of course even sniping has its own merits, mainly to encourage competition which on paper would push the scanlators to do better. More often than not, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. To keep it short, here and here are some of the reasons why it's a terrible practice. I can elaborate if anyone is interested for more. (Though, might be better to make a forum post and tag me there. Don't wanna litter drama on chapter's discussion thread.)

Now onto readers. Obviously most are very appreciative of the works being done by scanlators, and do care greatly about their chapters and quality. But also many of them who don't give a shit either, as long as they get the chapter. Check any big manga's drama and you will see plenty. At this point it's not just about misunderstanding how scanlation works, but straight up "who cares, I don't give a shit". These are the type of readers I was directly addressing in the initial reply, because even I also belong in that group with some manga. Series that I read, but don't care about its fate. Hence the "consumption over dedication".

As for series that are dropped, unfortunately that's the nature of fan-made stuff. Visual novels, games, etc. all suffer from the same fate, and it does suck. To end this on a more positive note, do go out and support any series you want to appreciate, not just to you Monochrome_Scholar but anyone reading this. Just a "thank you for the chapter" often is enough as a motivation fuel, yet not many does it because of the common mentality "my one comment won't matter anyway", which I'm also guilty of.

@kn1000a Thanks for the clarification, and for your politeness in doing so. I misunderstood your gripes somewhat, and after reading your comments again, I do agree with you that the mentality of "speed above all, damn the quality" is not one that we as readers should ideally have.

To segue from your comment to anyone else reading this, I also apologise for further taking up space on the thread, and will simply share the sentiment of: appreciate your scanlators, let them know how much you enjoy a series, and in the words of Bill and Ted; "be excellent to each other".
