Final chapter (43) out this July 30th.. I wonder if this is meant to end or if it didn't sell enough.
Kinda wanted it to have the longevity that Ase to Sekken had :(

Well, it's likely related to the continuing trend of cishet writers engaging in queerbaiting, whether intentional or not. In this story's case, a lot of transfeminine readers would relate to the experience, and some have complained about the rug being pulled out from under them. Full disclosure, I was one of those readers who complained but kept at it because the story was worth a shot. I'm mostly pleased with it, though I am more than mildly disappointed with how few works there are which have a not-conventionally-attractive crossdressing lead who would also manage to be trans representation.

Hopefully that made sense.
It doesn't, it's a pretty singular experience. Can you rephrase or expand on it?

It will have the same amount of volumes as another recent work of the authors, Sei Gitai Osananajimi.
While it would be good if it had the same amount of chapters as Ase, I think this series works as a short serialization.
It probably sold less than Ase, but I believe that not by much, otherwise they would've pulled the plug before the series reached 4 years, probably that's just meant to be the end

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I mean no ill words here, and I absolutely agree that there should definitely be more trans representation in media

But I feel this is an approach to gender expression that isn't explored as often either, categorizing Subaru to be a trans character kinda misrepresents what the author is trying to go for

Subaru represent a more fluid expression of gender and gender presentation. It's exploring it in a way that shows the insecurities not only of occasionnally presenting to other as female while being AMAB, but also the problems and insecurities that might arise from being in a relationship with such circumstances

I think Subaru's case is very unique and I personally find it very fascinating how the story is approaching his sense of self and how he's slowly feeling more comfortable with who he is

Maybe if the story had an actual trans character it wouldn't feel as betraying to FemTrans readers, and I feel this might be something the author should've considered...

Again, I mean no ill intent, and that this is just a personal interpretation of what I think the author is trying to do loll

Yeah, I'm not really going to disagree because the whole thing ... well, in general, there's a need for nuance. Subaru's case isn't really "unique" when we consider the CD subgenre and how questions of gender variance and exploration tend to be handled by authors, but the story is at least treated better than ... okay. This might get me some hate, but the whole Kasane to Subaru story is maybe the best crossdressing story because the author treats them like human beings rather than what's normally done with gender nonconformity. There are some things the author could have done better, to be certain, but ultimately I like this series because the author doesn't fetishize Subaru or treat him like Etori Yuuya or Mikuzu or Vae might, to name three.

It makes me curious how this author would have handled writing a character who realizes their being transfem or transmasc, and there's that feeling of missing out that frustrates my fellow transfem readers. We may half-joke on the forums and social media, and some may genuinely be frustrated, but it's all connected to that wish for the normalization of the trans experience in media (especially manga), so that we aren't written for a cishet person's fetishes or as the butt of jokes.

It is funny to me how western, English-language gender theory discourse and praxis is assumed to be a universal practise by so many people who indulge in foreign-language media. None of this gender/queer discourse makes any sense in Japanese; it's like translating jokes, no pun intended. It's not like you're describing natural laws; all of queer theory has as much validity as poetry, which is my poetic way to not detract from the meaning it gives people despite not being a description of reality.

Anyway, I initially came here to say that sex gets better as you get older until it doesn't. Don't let a bad experience give you hangups.
