i don't know why some of you are panicking, she's clearly into jirai kei (which would explain a lot) a quick Google search wouldn't hurt anyone that aside
i really dislike how lowkey manipulative that was from her, left me a bad taste in my mouth
How am I supposed to Google “is this character a child or just dressing like one?”

Why are you people under the impression that it’s normal for people to know the niche fashion trends of other countries?

never said it was, what i'm saying is that since we clarified what the character was dressing as, there's no more need for this discussion. im not mad nor annoyed, I'm simply trying to explain, the character is portrayed as someone not really wealthy to afford all the fancy stuff of said fashion(jirai kei), she's also wearing sometype of heels OF said fashion, tho i understand where you're coming from with the "dressing as child", the sailor shirt style is not entitled for school uniforms only 🙇‍♀️

She's kind of sus though, like, will Ren be her sugar mommy while she goes gallivanting out in Tokyo? I know she's also desperate to get away from her family and Tokyo seems like paradise.
Ren did tell Akari that she has to manage her own finances. As far as both people functioning perfectly fine when independent goes, this situation isn't ideal. Akari does seem to be very dependent on Ren, especially so since her family doesn't support her, but I think a certain measure of messyness early on in a new environment shouldn't be off-limits.

That said, they both need to be vigilant and ensure that they'll reach some equilibrium where both of them can at least function independently even whilst being together.

It’s currently trendy for adult women to dress like children?

it’s not a “moral panic” to cringe at the idea of someone in their mid-to-late 20s dating a child.
Have we been reading the same manga? One MC is a guy who frequently crossdresses and the other MC typically dresses more masculine. But the thing you draw the line at is a young woman dressing in the jirai kei style? You know, the style aimed at young women? :questionblob:

I asked a question.

Why are there people expecting westerners to know the ins and outs of Japanese fashion culture?
We are not all deep weeb. I haven’t been there since 2010, when goth lolita was still “in”. Which is still adult women dressing like children.

It was a thing around the turn of the century in America, too, dressing like kids.
It was weird.

People wearing clothing they like = cool.
People dressing like children = fashion being weird again.

Cross-dressing is just breaking norms that are arbitrary.
Dressing like a child for a date borders on age play and is a bit…

If you saw a grown man dressed like The Boy in Blue, you’d probably think it odd.

Fashion is weird. Alway been that way. 🤷‍♀️

I really hope that she thinks this through more carefully. It really feels like her girlfriend is trying to rapidly pressure her into a situation that even on just a base financial level is really precarious and dangerous. I get that living with bigoted parents is terrible but you have to have a plan for how to safely exit that kind of situation, and dropping things to quickly move to the big city where things can be expensive is dangerous.

A: @ me if you’re gonna @ me.
B: How am I, an American, to know about fashion culture of a country I’ve not been to in nearly 15 years?
C: school uniforms, the navy, and other children’s clothes. Can it be used for other things? Sure. But that’s the association to be made.
edit:
D: “🙇‍♀️“?

right?
Ren was clear from the get go how rent and chores are going to be, and she immediately used her tears and sad gay kid story.. like...... ok?
From the fight about Ren living with female roommates and now suddenly forcing her way to Tokyo has just been giant red flags. I truly hope for Ren that Akari is just childish and nothing more.

Ren-Akari side arc is just beginning, so like many others, I'm just being very sus of her especially because of how her character was introduced (the fight about females roommates and now the sudden moving in together).
I guess I just didn't like how when Ren was being blunt about chores and finances, Akari immediately took that as "so that's a yes?" and cried.
For now, I don't like Akari but I will give her (rather, the mangaka) the benefit of the doubt that all will be ok. As far as I've read Yamada Kintetsu's manga, all of them have been pretty straightforward with no dragged-on unnecessary drama.

Damn she's a cradle robber lol

It'll be fun to see if that ends in trainwreck with the gf looking like a landmine or if they'll subvert the expectations here somewhat

i would love for it to go that way so we can know more about their side story but I'm afraid we won't since the manga is ending in some chapters, i really wish this manga got half of the love that Ase to Sekken got so it could've had more chapters (at least that's how I think it works 🤔), i hope the ending is not rushed either

If by "currently" you mean "for the past 20-30 years" and by "like children" you mean "extremely cute dresses and often twintails"... yeah, very much so.

Just go to any clothing shop in Shibuya and simply look around.

And what if she's dating a JK... This is fiction 🤷🏻
if it's like that, the fiction will be less enjoyable.

When the characters of a story do their best to be good people, I like it much more.

I think moral conflict and resolution is the best part of fiction.
