I will say, it is worth keeping in mind that Mori-chin isn't the one fetishizing it. But whether or not its a fetish doesn't really matter, in the long run.

Crossdressing, psychologically, is a very interesting thing. Some guys who do it don't get turned on by it, and some do. But regardless of how they react to it it fits in a weird third realm of being something a guy enjoys doing but doesn't really view as a fetish-y thing, regardless of if he actually gets turned on by it or not, because crossdressing is always more than just the act of being turned on by wearing women's clothing - it's the ability to explore fashion and makeup, the ability to understand women on a level beyond the surface, and an ability to express cuteness, something that for guys is almost never accepted.

At the very least Mori is in a position to listen positively and in the future fully understand Subaru's feelings and motives, especially given his stance of "you like what you like, it shouldn't matter whether people praise you for it or not". The quickest way to turn him away as an ally is to attack him for viewing things through his perspective lense rather than explaining the situation through your own; something too many people do these days and wonder why no one fucking understands them... well have you fucking tried to understand WHY the other person doesn't?

Yeah, I absolutely like the way the author handled Mori's response.

Not everyone is so knowledgable about queerness. And if they don't freak out and straight up acting bigotly, that's often already acceptable.

While Mori sees is as a fetish, he also fully aware the value of privacy. If it was me, I would also prefer someone who misunderstands but keep quiet, than trying to change some hateful people's mind.
