is blue that rare? seems like it'd be a pretty color unless it'd be too 'dark'/blend in with the surroundings or so , but still prolly more likely to see than a full black one unless the flowers drawn contrast it enough to look nice

I'd be surprised if blue was rare. Even in a lot of anime I've seen where you have the girls (and some guys) wear kimonos they're pretty vivid in color, or at least less muted than one might expect.

Who knows though. I can't say with any certainty.

More like, it's unusual to wear a kimono in the first place. They're expensive and you don't have many opportunities to wear one. It appears that many of them are outright antiquities, passed down from generation to generation without seeing much use.
Main characters wearing kimono in anime is about as unrealistic as the MC's harem in the first place.
