Why are they covering up a decently crafted hardwood floor like that, those floor covers are a breeding ground for bacteria, also I see SchultzD up there with the carpet, better option but still a shitty choice to cover wood floors like that.

Because this is a rental, and they can't make any permanent changes to the unit

Yeah lmao, nailing carpets? How tf do you clean it

Are you sure you're not thinking of an area rug or something?

Either way, they didn't do a rug, or carpet or keep hardwood floors. They went with whatever Aoki found on TikTok/Youtube it seems.

the appeal of parquet floors is that they look nice, and are better in every way than the common alternative (tile floor).

sincerely, a guy whose house is mostly parquet floors

Renovation guy here. You and the other guy are thinking of 2 different types of carpet. In North America "carpet" often refers to carpet floor, meaning the entire floor being covered with textile. This requires tack strips installed on subfloor to secure the carpet on top. No you don't take it out for cleaning, only vacuum or hiring someone with carpet cleaner to come do it. Yes it's dirty af. Yes everyone hates it, people will switch to hardwood or vinyl/laminate floor whenever they have money. The type of carpet you're thinking of is rug.

The thing they're putting down in the chapter is probably vinyl. But should have got the plank type, which is free floating. The type they used requires adhesive on floor to hold down, which will definitely fk up the floor below. You might think double tape adhesive is not that strong but once the adhesive cured (after few months), it will be impossible to get out. You need to sand and refinish the whole floor if you want it gone.
