Not to mention no social media account to contact her and let her know his phone's bustedWhy are Mangakas still using the broken phone plot device? Are you really trying to make me believe that in 2026 this Japanese teenager is both not using Line and doesn’t have his contacts cloud synced?
What a stupid plot. Even SIM card can be swapped to the new phone and eSIM is more prevalent than ever. Why are Mangakas still using the broken phone plot device? And wouldn't just buy a new phone instead of waiting an entire week for some fucking reasonWhy are Mangakas still using the broken phone plot device? Are you really trying to make me believe that in 2026 this Japanese teenager is both not using Line and doesn’t have his contacts cloud synced?
better love story than twilightI had a friend who, back before everything was in the cloud, met a guy a party hit it off really well, then he ghosted her. She was bummed about it, and then moved on.
Then about a month later he calls her from a new number.
Had her number save in phone. Fumbled phone on a bridge in to a river. He was a certified scuba diver. Took time off work to dive the river with a friend to hunt for phone. Found it after 3 days. Took to repair shop. Completely hosed. Proceeds to interrogate everyone in his friend group about the party. Eventually tracks her down. End up getting married a couple years later.

Why is it that lately everyone keeps complaining about everything in almost every manga?
Wait for the next chapter, and we probably will get the explanation. If the explanation is bad, then you can complain…
Can everyone just wait, enjoy it, and let the story develop itself?
Yes, this happened a lot of times, but that drama, that misunderstanding, is part of the story. No one wants to read a story where everything resolves in one chapter, because everyone always wants more. Can only speak for myself - but tropes like this, and the amount of times they've been done, feel very much like lazy story telling. People are entitled to complain with the chapter as its presented. If its resolved (and resolved cleanly) next chapter, we can sit back like "Ah! You got me author, well played".
But most of the reactions are from familiarity where "this is stupid, and it is very likely to be resolved/explained messily because the author needs to add some drama". I've seen it many times before (and it'll happen again with other mangas) where we finally get to the anticipated confession scene, only to have an incredibly dumb monkey-wrench thrown in to draw the event out further, in this case its a broken phone.
