Oh shit it is Eizouken from a parallel universe!

Well i guess that price money must have come out of somewhere and it was probably from the city's budged, because we all know it was not out of the politician's or his party's pocket

The criticism made sense at the start, just make it more mainstream, add romance, put in fanservice, tone down the violence, make it cuter, however it devolved to things completely unrelated to the product

I'd say the issue even with the initial criticism was that, even at it's most "sane", it wasn't advising how to make a quality, innovative and exciting anime, but rather an anime that would fit their perceived audiences and networks. Things like AKIRA, etc., had huge audiences but had all of these things.

There isn't anything inherently wrong with SOL-slop, but when animation team actually wants to make something in a different vein, then these would detract from it (unless they were vital parts of the story or character already.)

I wonder if there's some meta commentary where the author is actually talking about eizouken the manga

Good manga, author wants to draw what he draws and says what he says, but there's No fanservice even in the anime which does cause the popularity of this manga to maybe not be as much as those moe slop

Especially when the author and director went out of their way to make the characters be not sexy in the least, so the audience could focus on the story. Then the live action made all the characters cute instead of picking regular-looking girls...
