He defeated a nation level threat. Something that wiped out a major chunk of the national army. He wasn’t going to be anonymous for long after that. The king had to out them for nothing more than national security and to guilt them into loyalty. It’s hard to be a full blown villain or traitor when an entire nation reveres you.

i just hope the childish author realizes this should push the original hero over the edge to cause a foolhardy confrontation. If he’s smart, the author will allow the shitty hero to gain some actual power to make the fight worth it.
