Nah, I thought that was the funniest scene in the chapter. It served as a good lesson against acting too humble and thinking that all the people will always read between the lines, no matter what. Dude said he did nothing, they believed him. I'm not saying he should be boastful, but if everybody knows you did something good and folks are heartily and sincerely thanking you for it, it's actually awkward to tell them you don't need their thanks because you did nothing.

first points a little moot. They were part of a faction that didn't believe in the supremacy of nobility. That plus the fact that, though the rebellion was hijacked by someone after their own power and was willing to attack the princess for it, they did believe in the cause that he put down under the reasoning that "it just isn't time yet to abolish the aristocracy and nepotism". It's entirely understandable to feel awkward or even resent him a little even if he saved their leader and them afterwards.

...where were they staying in the meantime? That's like, 3 weeks of lodging that they weren't given, and considering they were meeting at Lynos's place after, they weren't staying there the whole time either.

Kind of weird they were able to put off going to Krumfal for so long. From what the Prime Minister said it doesn't sound like they have a lot of information, but having no crops or fishing sounds dire. Lynos could have at least gone there with the Ferris to check that the whole city hasn't been raised or died of famine.

Forgiving is easy if you're not personally affected and you could use the manpower.

Turning over a new leaf is what a lot of criminals want, though, since their crimes are done out of desperation or something like that.
