Hmm, this is reminding me why I hate nationalism and militarism. Nothing against the people that serve, but I will never enjoy killing over nothing more than abstract beliefs and ideals. Not to mention both are two primary reasons we got stuck with WW1 and WW2 (so fundamentally flawed). Plus the idea that “my country needs to be the best and who I kill to make it that” is just mean. A normal level of nationalism where you just love your country is great, but the extreme is terrifying.
Regardless I’m looking forward to how this goes. Honestly I would have much preferred a more fluffy slow life as the MC grew in ranks and enjoyed his new family, and I will never forgive that for disappearing so quickly, but I am interested how this ends. The dark turn feels a bit forced, but also surprising. I see people saying the MC could just kill them all, and I’m over here just having forgotten everything the MC could do. If he could, then I’m mad again, because that means this is uber forced.
