I don't remember if this is true or not, or if it even gets explained, but maybe the reason she was released was because those in charge of her and the tests she was doing were all squished into a fine paste by her new master. The stuff she was doing could've been so confidential that very few knew the nature of her work, so they were fine with getting rid of her

Agreed. I have no idea why, but the plot has derailed hard. It can barely be considered the same series anymore. Hell, you could pick it up from after they left the forest and read everything before on sparknotes.
