Destroying records of the past... have they never heard of the saying "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"? This business reminds me of China's Cultural Revolution, where they tried to destroy all the old, traditional stuff to pave the way for the future, which didn't work out too well in practice. Based on the way things are going, it's also going to be bloody and end up hindering the future in some ways (which the brother seems to be aware of, since he comments on them destroying the future as well as the past). It also seems more like an excuse to seize the power of the god-territories.
