How did he find the divorce papers? Did they not put it in a drawer? I would have assumed they cleaned the place before inviting guests.
It's subtle but in the panel where the kouhai is rolling around on the ground, she bangs into the cabinet and the somehow causes the drawer to open. Tbf he shouldn't have snooped and looked in the drawer.

Cultural difference. The Japanese place a high importance on the respect for your elders and parents. No matter how old you are you’re still beholden to your parents. Bluntly, it doesn’t matter if we think that’s stupid, to the deeply traditional Japanese (who this is made for in the first place) it makes absolute sense for Rui. There’s the fact the Japanese place much on public image and how society sees you.
The weight society places on listening to or having a relationship with your family is intense even outside of Japan. I've watched a few people distance themselves from or entirely cut off parents or siblings and others around them constantly apply pressure."Oh, but they're your sister/mother/father ..."

Sometimes I wonder if they remember that they are adults who cannot be forced to do anything
I was also about to say this,
These are literally grown ass men and women
What you have to remember is that the average mental age of characters in fluffy romantic settings is 15.
it's not about mental age or being afult or what not,i live in a part of the world where this happen even when peoples are past their 30's. peoples sometimes forget this happen in conservative japanese society (by comparaison to the west), in many parts of the world, family (especially parents) is king and do have a say and can implement pressure no matter how grown up you are,ESPECIALLY when it comes to stuff like finding partners and marriage, and in this case it's actually the older and more grown up you get,the bigger the pressure builds up unti it becomes the dominant talking point, and it's somewhat a taboo if you lash out for it.

i know the cultural difference sounds weird, but i just wanted to clarify it.

Why does the annoying lesbian exist? Why the the author keep bringing her in? God I hate her character so much.
The annoying lesbian is just not funny, idk why it keeps popping up in romance manga. Who actually finds that trope funny?
looking at the thread my opinion may be unpopular, but imo these sort of characters add flavour i don't find them annoying, someone else mentioned they don't like "relation detective" characters but if we remove all of them the manga with its concept won't work (even spyxfamily has relation detective stuff) ,and it will be just the couple.

Where tf did he get that? Are they stupid and was it just lying around (plausible)?

Or is this guy low-key psychotic and rummaged through someone else's drawers (also plausible)?

Thanks for the chapter either way!

I really liked this, it is pretty funny that Kyosuke was pretty much naliing it and Rui kept fucking it up.

I'm still slightly mystified by the ex-boyfriend. From the way he was presented so far, he seems like a genuinely nice person, but then you had these "I'll make them divorce" comments which don't really seem to fit his characterization at all. You'd think that in this chapter he was ready to give up and report to the parents her daughter is happy until they found the papers. Either there's more to it than that, or it's a bit of an inconsistent characterization on author's part. Or maybe Kurumi is right that he's a stalker and she should punch the shit out of him more, I honestly don't know at this point.

I hate this kind of orientalist nonsense. There are plenty of Japanese people who have bad relationships with their parents, just as there are plenty of westerners who would do what there parents ask even as adults. We're all human at the end of the day. I've always felt like this kind of bloc armchair cultural analysis ignores this.

That said, I do think it makes sense for Rui to feel beholden to her parents as someone who grew up in a snooty, strict household.

It really is all stupid though. It's a contrived plot for a silly romcom. That doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

Guess it's just cool for exes to go through your stuff? Dude would be kicked out so fast; they have no reason to explain themselves to you my guy.

MAN. I freakin' love this manga. This chapter was everything.
That HAS to be a girl. There's just no way.
I dunno man I relate to him a lot. But society won't let me express myself in such ways without totally rejecting me, so I gotta tone it down. sigh
I know it's the entire point of the manga, but "relationship detectives" are some of my least favorite characters
Isn't kinda the same when people check up on newlyweds IRL?
Sometimes I wonder if they remember that they are adults who cannot be forced to do anything
welcome to the whole "protect family dynasty" stuff
Is it just me, or did the art change a bit? Looks more "romcom" than in, say, chapters 1-3, but maybe that's also cuz the character's haircuts changed a bit?
yup it has

when the annoying girl was rolling around, she banged into the drawer, opening it. The paper was right at the top.
