I really like this how kind he is even her mother was really awful and negligent about it. It's refreshing as well since it's something you can still fix or improve on with a character development without needing it to cut out of life because it's toxic. Definitely we shouldn't tolerate it, but story wise, it gives you a different perspective on how it can be handled than just throwing it all away.
