I dislike that we are to infer the worst, only to have an entire chapter of this guy later screaming the details during the penultimate fight sequence; it eats up pages of story progression.

I do appreciate that this is a specific cultural style of storytelling with its roots stretching beyond and before Kabuki and No theatre all the way back to oral history traditions.
