i think i've already read your post but could you tell me the chapter where you wrote?
I may have overstated writing it all in one chapter, so I'll just post the stuff I have here from a few dif chapters (and dynasty, I didn't realize my comments were so different between the two, but I guess it depends on who is replying).

chapter 155:
If you're using food metaphors, then the band moment is the beginning of dinner and right now we're on the appetizers and the full meal is yet to come.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me I read a story like this as in flow, and does the flow feel connected or is it interrupted? Does the flow follow reasonable curves, or is it unusually and even unnaturally jagged? And other such questions. When I look at this story right now, I think all of it fits, I don't think we've reached any satisfying conclusions in the college arc because we haven't reached any conclusion points.

But the basics seem pretty well established:
1) Aya and Mitsuki are together, but not open about their dating with most of their classmates.
2) They are both charming enough that there are clearly other people interested in them on some level though not necessarily pursuing them.
3) Mitsuki has been struggling to find a band she fits into, and this latest one seemed better than the rest.
4) Mitsuki is still popular for her playing even within this band, but the band is social media focused more so than art focused which is not inspiring for Mitsuki.
5) Mitsuki didn't want to be seen comprising her art and herself in front of Aya
6) Aya saw.

There are a number of obvious conflict points with these established, and probably a lot of non obvious conflict points, and right now we're picking at the latest developments but we may pick on ones from earlier later on too. Or we may not, whatever Sumiko-sensei is interested in. Either way, none of these have blown out completely yet in terms of confrontations or conversations between Aya and Mitsuki, they're still just possible points of conflict. Hence, appetizers.

Chapter 162 on Dynasty:
They've always had drama and conflict. First was the conflict over pretending to be a boy. Second was the drama with Aya's friends. Then there was Aya's fear that Kanna was going take Mitsuki away to America, which lasted for a while and wasn't resolved immediately. We had a bit of mini drama with Mitsuki feeling jealous of "Onii-san". We had all the drama at school with Mitsuki's music, which then turned into Aya's jealousy, and all of that wasn't resolved until they finally got together. Then we had Aya's drama with feelings of insecurity that led to her essentially self-harming, which was also kind of the end of the fear of Kanna taking Mitsuki away.

Some of that was resolved quickly, and some of that really wasn't. I have no problem with people saying that they don't like the current drama and preferred the previous drama, but the idea that this was a fluff manga is just not accurate. There have always been really cute fluff chapters, but there have also always been drama arcs, from the very beginning.

[communication issues] Here, it feels very in character. Mitsuki has always been the type that struggles to talk about her feelings and problems. That's really never changed. I wish she made more growth about it, but it's not out of character and so it doesn't bother me as much. Aya, too, doesn't necessarily struggle to talk about her feelings in the same way, but is conflict avoidant most of the time. And like others have pointed out there are still aspects of their relationship that work really well, so it's not like they're on the outs and super depressed and about to break up. They just have problems communicating, which they've always had.

[on the manga changing] This is really my main issue with people complaining is that the manga hasn't changed. It's reader's expectations that have changed. Which, that's fine! If people were ok with this kind of writing style before they were together, and less ok with it after, that's a totally valid take. But a lot of the complaints are acting like the style changed in college, and it really hasn't. The manga has always been this way. Things don't always get resolved immediately, there are fluff or unrelated chapters in between the drama arcs, and it takes a while for these things to resolve or they get complications down the line.

And to be absolutely clear, if someone doesn't like the manga in college, I would certainly never argue that they're wrong. That's a totally valid take. It's when people say, "I don't like the college arc because there's too much drama, no fluff, and nothing gets resolved now" where I feel like they should reread the manga from the beginning to see that well it was always like this.

Current chapter 168: To add to those thoughts, I also think thematically this is the direction the manga needed to go. If their relationship is based on feeling different and othered because of their music taste (with that partly also being a metaphor for being gay), then what does their relationship look like without music? And can they make it work not having that in common any more? It goes back to what Kanna and Joe were dealing with. Can Aya and Mitsuki avoid the mistakes of Kanna and Joe, can they be better and do better?

AWWW very relatable chapter, now that I've been an adult for a while and hit some roadblocks in life, wishing I could go back home again. Thank you for the translations.

I was wondering when Joe was gonna show up again. I had my fingers crossed it would be a little later to show the 'dult(s) the kids would be alright, but as guy who missed out a good part of a great romance and very nearly missed out forever, he might be the best person to highlight how self-destructive Mitsuki's behavior is.

DNA ain't in the title for nothing

This is a pretty meta chapter in that, yeah author, plenty of us readers also want to go back in time to when Mitsuki and Aya were being clumsy but cute dorks as Uncle Papa Joe warmly watched over them. Instead, we're stuck in this miserable, erratic time-skipping, constant misunderstandings and miscommunication, double lesbian love triangles drama that hearkens back to Mitsuki's most unlikable era, when she kept hurting Aya by being too cowardly to open up to her.

It feels like some of the commenters here don't want to actually read stories about lesbian relationships as they exist in the real world and instead want yuri fantasy fluff. Which is fine, everyone has their preferences, but this series has never been that and you're going to continue to be disappointed.

Ah, the “beloved side character to pad out the story and avoid dealing with the story’s conflict” filler chapter

Atleast for me, I don't think the issue is that there's conflict. The issue is that the extremely short chapters force said conflict to happen extremely staccato, quick and disjointed. A conflict in one chapter will be entirely skipped past the next. I would much, much rather the author switch to longer, monthly releases. Right now it feels more like the author is more interested in the manga as an excuse to draw, and the plot is incidental, not the other way around.

I'm starting to think the mangaka had no idea what to do with the girls after making them a couple, and now they're just grasping at straws to prolong the series.
There's a reason virtually every GL manga ends shortly after the girls get together. Writing the build-up towards that moment is a well-worn path. It's also one particular genre of story.

Writing an existing relationship is an entirely different genre and arguably a harder one, because you need to tackle more 'adult' themes (like how to stay together as fights come up or infatuation fades or evolves).

Let's hope she talks things out next, I'm just glad her uncle managed to cheer her up!

I mean, I don't know if I'd say it's NEVER been that. The initial premise is EXTREMELY "yuri fantasy fluff". A girl falling in love with another girl who works at a record shop and is super cool and alternative and likes all the same music as she does, but she thinks the other girl is a guy because she's essentially Clark Kent at school? That's some shit that would never happen in real life, but that's part of why it's so fun. It takes a while for the extra nuance of the story to begin revealing itself.

I appreciate the more dramatic and psychological aspects of the story, but I do think some parts of it are much more successful than others. I actually think the current arc is pretty interesting, but the "low point" has gone on for longer than usual and it should probably start going somewhere soon.

Honestly, I think a lot of the problems people are having are caused by the short length of the chapters. I just binge-read it a while back to catch up, and I think it works better that way, but when you're waiting a week for four pages, the pacing can feel a lot slower than it actually is. Although, ironically, I think the pacing can also be a little too rushed at the same time just from how much the author has to cram into four pages. She does a great job making it flow naturally, but four-page chapters are still inherently limiting.

I don't mind Yuri conflict, I've been wanting blue Yuri since the beginning
The pacing really is a huge problem tho, 4 pages and chapters that go no where.
Also to be honest, I genuinely don't understand what the conflict is here. Aya caught her playing for a lame band. Mitsuki avoids talking about it and that's why they are growing apart? Maybe I'm missing something maybe I don't understand. I hate to say it but I genuinely don't think it's that big a deal. :nyoron: I just wish there was SOME progression. Like give me a thought bubble, monologue or Aya/Mitsuki asking for some advice from anybody. Even this chapter she talks around her problems with her uncle. Can't get invested if the plot is moving at a teleporting snails pace

I haven't seen Joe in a while. I'm still a bit worried about the main couple breaking up but that might just because I haven't understood the new chapters fully yet.

Vastly different sort of manga, and maybe in some eyes comparing apples to (rotten garbage) oranges, but I loved the take on that exact situation in Sakurako. Sakurako gets with the MMC after overcoming countless hurdles and misunderstandings, they become a couple, the manga freeze frames on her happy smiling victory... more panels of smiling... and she realizes the manga didn't end and they actually have to deal with being a couple now.

This is too sweet. I sense impending misunderstanding based doom with Aya and that one chick.......

I really hope I'm wrong and they can finally start making up.
