I feel like this series has run it's course and really needed to end at the timeskip part. Like, this just feels like the mangaka is forcing it to keep going and dragging it out either against their will or at the demand of the publisher. Everything is all messy and hard to follow, they keep jumping around, the characters feel so watered down and dull now. It's not as fun as it used to be, both mcs just feel like they're all depressed and miserable now. Kinda hope it ends soon.

Its so fucking boring after the timeskip. Why turn a 4 page mange into this episodic slop whos only purpose is to earn money? I dont even recognize the characters anymore, they are so watered down you would think they got replaced with skinwalkers.

It mostly earned the 9.5 before the latest volumes. It had a solid conclusion and should have stopped there.

Okay, I was checking this after noticing the anime announcement... and I have a serious question. How the hell is this 9.53? No, seriously, even if you ignore the post-timeskip mess happening in the latest chapters, I can't see ANYTHING that deserves such a rating.

First, the pacing is all over the place. You see some strange or interesting situation, you wait for the sutuation to develop and resolve in some way... no, the next chapter is suddenly a week timeskip and you have zero idea WTF is going on. Then the situation gets addressed, but in a completely strange way, like "oh, okay, it was that simple". The arc after Aya finding out about the true identity of her "onii-san" is especially strange... like, what do you mean you didn't see each other the whole summer after you already bonded over music, and suddenly behave like this, and CONTINUE to behave like this for weeks after that? After 80+ chapters in, the pacing starts to get more or less coherent, with somewhat logical arcs, actual development and so on... then after the Christmas kiss, where SUDDENLY Mitsuki turns into a completely different, proactive character for several chapters, everything is again all over the place. And then the timeskip for XYZ years in the future, and you are suddenly meeting a hella lot new characters you have zero idea who they are... no comments.

Second, the emotional intelligence of both MCs is on... I don't even know, which level. I've seen a whole bunch of very different plots "the introvert MC is being accepted by a new circle of friends who are showing him/her a future without loneliness and depression and introduce him/her to a normal, wholesome social life", but all of those plots had, like, an actual depth of the characters and noticeable, sometimes really complex, development. Here we have an introvert music otaku, which at one moment suddenly flips the switch and becomes "her new self" without any actual growth up to this point (okay, she got herself a somewhat dubious group of friends, congratulations), and a gal, madly in love with some imaginary onii-san, and that's the WHOLE actual scope of her feelings, if you look closely - she is still living together with her "onii-san", just the wrong gender - and who suddenly discovers she is a bi (since, apparently, she fell in love with a male image of her "onii-san" at first). And the other girl just... accepts it? I always thought that the sexuality is something much more complex than this... And those basic characters actually do not change at all over time, since post-timeskip they still behave like middle-school teenage girls, plus the yuri part (which looks like some awkward experiments in the "sex for solace" context, instead of simply talking to each other), plus drinks. And when faced with actual problems they need to address, they do not talk, they do not show any real care about each other, they do not give an actual f... about what is going on, they just do some say gex, and suffer over suffering for the sake of suffering... WTF did I just read? This is the most cardboard dysfunctional relationship I've ever seen... How did they even last for so long like this after school graduation?

Hell, I have a feeling that just one chapter of Spice and Wolf has times more emotional depth and development than this whole manga... Or one Horimiya arc. Because even Remi there have more emotional intelligence than everyone here, combined.

I couldn't agree more, everything after the time skip is just wrong, I don't know any of the characters, and you didn't say anything about it but, how did everyone grow, but Aya's brothers are the same, it doesn't make sense, and the "fight" they had just vanished, like, Mitsuki was jealous and then... Nothing happens, she doesn't even adress the other girl like to see who she is, it's so frustrating, and the time skips from high school were so unnecesary, like, now that they are together I want to see their daily life as students, I want to see them be clingy, but no, they decided to skip all that to when they are adults, and it's so boring cause it's not adults like in Wotakoi, they are immature but you don't see the development

i agree with the people saying this doesn't deserve a 9. kind of.
the main appeal of this manga is that it showcases a much more 'realistic' lesbian experience than other girl's love. i feel like the main demographic for this manga is lesbian women, whereas most girl's love main demographic is men (much like how boy's love is mostly read by women). an actual butch lesbian as a main character, a femme, classic rock.... even if the writing is lackluster, the fact that you can have all this can make it significantly better than another girl's love for a lot of people. especially because it feels a lot more 'western' due to these aspects (and as such easier to relate to).
