The phone’s width and number of keys don’t match standard US/UK smartphone layouts. In Japan, many smartphones still use the 12-key keitai keypad layout for typing. So this is completely normal. Originally I was going to use kana mapping but doubted most people would be familiar with it so standardized into something more fitting.
