Deep down, I'm sure many of us would answer 'yes' to that question.
Some of us don't even have to delve beyond the surface.

So Umi thinks that her selfishness as a child caused her father to run off - the police at the door talking to mom most likely means he was doing something bad and skipped town. So from that point on she decides to never pick what SHE wants because she's scared that if she does what she loves will disappear. So sad, but not surprising that she may hate herself/blame herself for any of the bad things that happen.

So maybe the idea that someone kills themselves (either Umi or Tarou) which is the reason her lifetime is so short, and only when she gets a little happiness (or distance from the things she loves) can extend her time. The distance from Tarou worked because she believes that SHE is protecting HIM by doing this. All this time Tarou and friends were looking for some kind of external reason for her shortened time, but now he is examining what's going on inside her head...

Omg. The changing date gives another meaning now.... Could that be her suicide date? And when she's around Tarou she doesn't feel lie it anymore?
Many thanks

Damn man....
Just trying to imagine how much guilt and self-hatred she'd feel if something worse had happened to Tarou during the stalker incident makes me shudder.

We might have been right about that suicide theory...

Also, don't do LSD, kids. Tarou just was trippin' balls.

The only reason why I feel like the suicide theory might not be the one (cause honestly I've been guessing this for a while, since it's the one thing that could fluctuate so easily based on Tarou), is Itsuki refusing to tell them what her current future looks like. It's not like he hasn't seen it, he just feels like telling them will move the target. If he saw her kill herself, I think he'd be a little more inclined to open up at least vaguely since we now have some dangerous mentality on the menu.

Unless Itsuki is an idiot, and yeah, I guess he is. So we'll see.

Y'know now I'm really starting to lean towards the suicide theory...

(also noting how much I love how some comments have pointed out the gang are only looking at exterior potential problems to Umi and not internal ones)
