Give Mimi a locket with your picture, at least... Although, considering she's apparently immortal with immortal youth, that could potentially end up just being an anchor for Mimi, preventing her from moving on when Sheena inevitably kicks the bucket.
I think the solution I want to see most is Mimi starting to age and losing her immortality (also not being a 'secret weapon' anymore, obviously).
Been a pretty good series so far, and I have no reason to suspect the author will drop the ball with the ending, however they decide to approach it - though if it does fall flat it won't be shocking. Manga does that frequently.

The reality of the situation is incredibly bleak and I personally can't see winning scenario for Sheena and Mimi. On one hand she is trapped in a race against time. Either she dies in a sudden casual tragedy before graduation just like the premonition warned, or she somehow beats the odds and survives school. But surviving just unlocks a worse level.

Graduation is not an escape. It is a direct ticket to the absolute worst areas of the front lines. Even if she makes it there she will be treated as a disposable magical weapon meaning she could easily be killed in action anyway. No matter which path she takes Mimi gets left behind to grieve all over again.

And even in a miracle scenario where Sheena survives battle after battle and actually manages to grow old the tragic irony is that she will still outlast their time together. Because she ages normally and Mimi does not Sheena will eventually grow old and pass away leaving Mimi alone in the end regardless.

That is the horrifying truth of the institution. It poses as a sanctuary for orphan girls who have nowhere else to go but it is nothing more than a military factory. It takes vulnerable children sharpen them into weapons and systematically sends them straight to their demise. Every possible future ends in loss for Mimi whether through early death or eventual natural one.

I dont see a light at the end of the tunnel currently. Since Sheena doesn't want to become immortal, the only saving grace I can see is if there's a way to make Mimi mortal again.

I think you're undermining both of their characters a lot. They do genuinely care for the students and want them to survive the brutal years they have to stay at the school. Unfortunately for now the only thing they can do is training the students to be the strongest versions of themselves (Omi) or caring for the wounded (Fran). Just them alone can't change the school and the world to stop the students from having to go to war.
I do admit that the anime does a much better job of showing their characters tho, especially since it changed and added so many new scenes of Omi and Fran showing genuine care and grief.

"The people sending child soldiers to the war front want the children to make it back" doesn't exactly excuse the fact that they're helping send children to the war front, you know ?

If they actually wanted to help, they'd be the ones on the battlefield...

Oh, give me a break. "I put a weapon in a child's hand, I'm sad it lead to that child being killed" isn't care, it's immoral idiocy. What they need isn't being shown as victims who genuinely suffer from the situation. What they need is a reflection of what they could have done differently.

Pretending they're not to blame and are hurt that the children died is purely trying to pass the offender for a victim.

If you haven't seen the anime then I suggest you do, it added a lot of scene that fleshed out their characters more.

If they die in the battlefield, what then? More uncaring, apathetic teachers and nurses might replace them, and that would just make the students' lives worse. Their hands are tied and there is not much they could do, which might change later in the story idk.

Again, I would suggest watching the anime because it does a much better job at this. In the anime it's very clear that they blame themselves for every death that we see.
