Mitsuki needs a fire lit under her ass, and Haru was gracious enough to do it, as her direct rival. I get her worries, but I am an adamant believer in the idea that "if you choose to sideline yourself, you kinda don't deserve the win", so.

Glad that this is getting resolved promptly, though. The ball is in Yuka's court now, and it's up to her whether she'll hold out for her senpai, or not. Haru is being forthright and honest with and about herself, and she's owed just as much a shot at happiness as any of them.

No. Not for someone who introduced later on. They are there to prolong the story and add cheap and easy conflict. Most authors at this point just add them out of reflex because that what their predecessors have done and what their colleagues been doing for decades. And romcom mangaka is nothing if not predictable.

There is a webtoon that comes to mind, called The Second Lead Syndrome. You're right that it's exceedingly rare.

It's a strange question to answer, because as soon as it becomes obvious who the first and second romantic leads are, it feels like a foregone conclusion that the first lead will win. If the second lead starts to pull ahead, they become the first lead.

idk about this trope, but if it just latecomer love interest, i can point out some straight couple. Yuri speaking, i guess there are Gamma (althought there are no rival game or anything).
Also just look like they actually have a shot of have to already won ? Gushing over Magical girl still on going and so the vanila pair which come later still have the chance compare to the enemy-lover.
-Reliance have the rival being the pov character of the sequel (yuri girl is side character on main story) so it look like she actually have a shot
-koi-ni-koi-suru-koibito-kankei, althought "latecomer" is actually come first in-universe, but she totally not the "first girl sure win" to the audience

I'm not a fan of the "I'm not worthy trope", but I will say it makes sense here. Mitsuki's whole character is the path of least resistance. She's totally fine with everyone thinking she's an awful delinquent because she think it's pointless to try to change people's opinions and would rather just take their criticism without defending herself. It's in character for her to be uncertain and insecure. Still hate the trope though.

As for the late arrival rival character, yeah I agree, it's become a really boring trope. I don't mind per se because that shit happens all the time in real life, but the execution is almost always uninteresting. I haven't made up my mind about this one, it'll depend on what happens after the rejection.

Even with those criticisms though I still like Mitsuki and Yuka's chemistry.

As others have said, the outcome of this is pretty obvious. Haru doesn't stand a chance. I hope that Nanase gets the wake-up call and realizes that she can be Yuka's partner

When someone goes down the whole "I'm not worthy" route, it just illustrates that they have no faith in the other person and they shouldn't date.

Basically it's "I will make the decision for you that I'm not worthy because I don't think you're able."

Haru has zero chance due to the narrative going Yuka and Mitsuki from the beginning (and this isn't a braindead harem manga so there's no stringing you along with multiple choices that all lead to nowhere) but she's gotta try. Otherwise it's just gonna be a huge regret that's gonna fester down the line.

Unless the special gazebo was from a different manga and I’ve mixed them up…

The special gazebo was shown in this chapter when Yuka spots two other students confessing and then hugging. So, yes, it is this series.
Haru also has seen (and heard) firsthand just how much Yuka likes Mitsuki, and knows that she spent too long out of her CHF's life to actually stand a chance in winning her heart. But she'll do it anyway, because she's correct in her own situation and in Mitsuki's:

Better to try and fail, than regret the "what if" for forever.
