Imo the meat of why Ochi acts the way he acts is simply because he latched onto Hiroshi's "let's go pro together broski!" and never let go. He certainly doesn't seem the type to try and admit his feelings so he instead is willing to keep up a situation that allows them to remain constantly together as a pair. It's pretty obvious he doesn't have much outside of baseball, but baseball has kept him and Hiroshi tied together for all this time. He has Kanae decently pegged (though not as cleanly as he thinks ofc) but he's calling her out simply because she's threatening what he probably considers his deepest and most intimate link to Hiroshi, even if he's not consciously aware of that reasoning. Ochi sincerely cares about Hiroshi but a lot of his behavior is fueled by him being utterly terrified of the idea of Hiroshi leaving baseball, and, by extension, him. Page 18 + 19 convey this pretty well I think, and also pages 12-17 in chapter 28. Ochi has always viewed baseball as "their" thing above all else.

Your second claim is totally wrong which shows you don't know what you're talking about at all . he had no problem with hiroshi dating their childhood friend who wasn't a self centered, selfish mess. Hiroshi's childhood friend would realise that baseball is really important to hiroshi and would try to help and encourage him to recover but instead the main character doesn't care about that at all and wants to stop hiroshi playing baseball.

He didn't have a problem with Nana because she didn't threaten his baseball playing. I don't think you grasp the fact that Ochi is in some ways even more of a parasite than Kanae, because she has been trying to rely less and less on her expectations of him.

Ochi on the other hand has blatantly stated this chapter that Hiroshi doesn't have intrinsic value to him. His worth is in how he benefits others by being a star picher. We know Hiroshi was getting sick of the pressure anyway and has been wanting to find himself like Kanae.

Kanae's still bawling her eyes out. We see in her internal monologue in Ch57 pg6 that she can't control the waterworks. Unfortunately for her, Ochi believes she's doing this on purpose to paint him as a perp and herself as a victim. I can't blame Ochi for thinking she's trying to pull off an age-old trick; She didn't actually start crying until a third party showed up.

But as the audience we've been given more info, and we know she's not in control of this; We know she's had to go through domestic abuse, neglect and bullying. Ultimately, it's a convergence of a lot of unfortunate coincidences that led to the situation everyone's in now. Having an honest conversation about everything would clear things up, but no party here is in a calm or open state of mind at the moment.

What I love about this comic is how every character is flawed in a very believable way. There aren't any clear villains and good guys/gals, just a lot of abuse being cycled around. I'm kind of surprised how many people end up 'siding' with any specific character.

This is the most accurate reading of Ochi from what the content has shown us imo. I think everyone jumping at "Ochi is gay for Hiroshi" is too surface level and tropey given how much time the manga has invested in showing us psychological failings of the different characters.

To be fair, nobody has really considered how Hiroshi feels about the whole situation. Are we going to ignore the fact that Kanae was technically the reason Hiroshi can't play baseball due to injury? There's no justifying anyone's actions, but if push comes to shove, Kanae was the one who ended up hurting him the most for who he was. If anyone thinks her fear of abandonment is valid, don't forget that was the ENTIRE reason of an ordered gang rape of a school bully suffering from the same thing... Kanae's just worse because two wrongs don't make a right either.

The true brainlets are anyone silly enough to defend or 'side' with any of these characters. The whole point of this manga is that everyone here is fucked up in their own way.

I was figuring that the vice captain was accusing Ochi as part of some plan to oust him from the team and usurp the captain's position.

But no. He accused him of hitting Kanae because he actually thinks he did. He just jumped to conclusions after stumbling onto the scene while distracted by a twerking gacha game.

Kanae's getting handed a flawless victory over Baseball Bro thanks to waifu ass.

Still feels like the new? baseball guy chara is stirring up trouble, if not just assuming Kanae was struck because it looked like she fell down and hasn't stood up yet, or just realizing that Ochi is messed up/obsessed with Hiroshi or just thinks that he's strict on everyone in the team despite not being the captain (b/c you'd think with how gungho about baseball he is, he'd be the vice captain with hiro being captain versus whatever this guy's name is lol), but if anything considering it's late at night or so by now, I would expect one of them to say "let's all go home and cool our heads" b/c if you think someone did hit someone you'd wanna separate them/give them some distance or so versus like forcing some apology/confrontation

I guess no one else is normal in this manga b/c i wouldn't think it's 'normal' (unless he was shown before being thirsty for kanae) to be like "I think she got hit, so i'm gonna ask her to date me instead" kinda thing

Rest of the chapter aside, how do you deal with someone who is crying during an argument?
Just like here, I've been at the place of a third party seeing a fight/argument between two and one of them starts crying.
As well, as I've been in a argument where the other person started crying and the whole thing just derailed.

Like what is the correct way to handle these situations?
