it's ironic that kanae wants hiroshi to quit baseball for her when his effort in baseball is what made appeal to others, including her, in the first place. even worse is that her selfishness is disguised as concern so it's harder for him to recognize
It's the worst of all scenarios: His arm really did get destroyed by doing the sport. The actual best course of action aligns perfectly with her selfishness. If he keeps going, he'll make it worse. If he stops and embraces her instead, he goes deeper into the toxic loop.

It actually make sense.
She got attached to him because he treated her nice, she now wants his complete attention.
She craves to be needed, as long Hiroshi have baseball he can be fine without her, but not the other way around.

I also don't think she is faking her concern, but she had a twisted way on how people think.
She thinks that people are forcing their expectations on Hiroshi and look badly at him because with his injury he can't match those expectations, so she suggested what she always do: run away from problems.

yeah like sure kanae could have phrased things better, but she's a very mentally ill, traumatized teenager. while him being attacked absolutely contributed to the injury, the fact that he ignored it and kept playing like normal really makes it feel like it was inevitable. he himself said he just plays to have fun and spend time with his friend, and really should take the time to think about if playing til he fucked up his shoulder was worth it.

Him playing baseball didn't appeal to her, it's his kindness towards her and attention, she doesn't even get what's about the game.
