Best Realistic Romance Manga I have ever read so far. Its really amazing how it ended. I wish I could've read more about their slice of life with Daiki. My heart still flutters.

That was hell of a roller-coaster ride. It wasn't just a train where the romance goes on like a straight line,
there were parts where you'd actually hate the MC and FMC because of their actions/decisions like their sudden break-up during high school, but relating it to real life, heck... Those shits do happen.

Times where we are desperate, times where we'd feel like nothing good is happening anymore, times that we'd think of things irrationally and act recklessly, and times where our friends would even abandon us. The thing is, real life doesn't work like a fairytale wherein our wishes, hopes and dreams would all come true. There are times where we would make a BIG decision that would actually change everything.

Overall, imo, the execution was great.

My personal favorite chapter is the Akari's wedding.
The childhood friends/siblings dynamics between Haruto, Takashi, and Akari in that chapter really brought me to tears when I read it years ago.
That just showed how much we cared for the characters even when Takashi and Akari didn't get together much after Haruto went to Tokyo.
This is by far the best romantic comedy-drama manga I've ever read.
Too bad we didn't get a proper English release like Suzuka and Fuuka until today.
Hopefully we can start a petition request to Kodansha for a proper release even if it's just in digital format.

this manga is good, its very realistic, bcs its not overly dramatic or anything, its just dumbass immature highschoolers having no clue about what to do, for example haruto is not a cheater, if nanami just accepted haruto's confession and sucked up her jealousy for a few months they wouldve been happily dating after eba happily goes home, these dumbasses are trying their best and its fun to watch them fuck things up like idiots

I was fully prepared to hate this manga. Instead, Kimi no Iru Machi turned out to be quite a decent read. I would, however, not recommend reading this in its entirety, as the payoff is extremely disappointing considering all the lengthy but shoddy setup. I think your time is better spent elsewhere than 261 chapters of a rather underwhelming manga.

Kimi no Iru Machi is brilliant as a "realistic" coming-of-age story revolving around the main character, Kirishima Haruto. The manga's great pacing does this theme absolutely wonders - though often interrupted by some dull subplots here and there that never really end up anywhere and only serve to drag things out. Character relationships felt authentic and well-established - although it's not helped by several exaggerated situations that will take you out of your immersion just for a cheap laugh or two (though you'll most likely groan instead). Finally, the romance between teenagers then young adults, oh how bitter and sweet, how stupid but meaningful, so lifelike it's actually terrifying - only to be diluted by the myriad of inconsequential and/or repetitive development.

I think you can see the pattern. KNIM has a lot of little flaws, writing, plot, character-wise, strewn all over the story. I don't want to use the word "fanservice", but its abundance in KNIM has genuinely held back its potential to become a romcom that's truly one for the ages. KNIM tries to be a serious, a "realistic" work of art, yet it keeps shoehorning in uninspired fanservice moments, and for what?? Throughout my time reading this I keep being taken out of my immersion and appreciation of this manga time and time again by these moments. And whenever that happens, I can't help but remember all the flaws I thought was just a little bump in a great journey, how annoying they were, and how I wish I could be reading something else right now - and all of that builds up. Whatever, I guess I can't really fault the author for including them - for a weekly shounen manga, fanservice may be its selling point. Actually, most of the flaws in this manga can be understood by the fact that KNIM is a weekly shounen manga, one that many people have grown up with.

Kimi no Iru Machi is still a nice romcom and an even better coming-of-age story. If you don't mind fanservice, then you'll have no difficulty trudging through everything. But it will inevitably put a damper on your reading experience, as this manga's length is also its greatest downside. If you truly know what you're getting into, KNIM is a nice read whenever you're bored, but there are many more entertaining and weighty works out there with much less the time-consumption.

This aspect is obviously debatable, but personally I really like this manga went far and beyond the main character's school life. This may be the first time where I actually enjoyed "filler" chapters (still not ones that's only fanservice!). It's rare that a manga continually covers that long a period, and it was a great decision. There are peaks, low moments, all in-between the very very long normality but still unique experience of daily lifea. Thanks to it, I genuiely feel a connection to Haruto, and by extension, his struggles, friend/relationships and growth. Of course they had to ruin it by introducing fanservice every step of the way, but whatever.

I do like how, despite all the fanservice, not everyone is romantically interested in the MC. Because of that, and the confounding plot development, there was never really a true love triangle moment (I think), funnily enough. Yuzuki has always been established as a selfish character, and I love that it ultimately culminated in the Tokyo Arc. Haruto has always been indecisive, and I love that it comes back to bite him when they get back together. These two asses really are a perfect fit for each other. I really, really wish KNIM could've just focused on its theme and cut the chapter count by aboout 100, though.
