@SleepyDemon Yeah, it was a piercing combination of simplicity and brutality.

As a kid, my sister always hated cooked carrots, but liked raw carrots just fine. It's a texture thing.

I like this story! I think will be very interesting is the author focus in him building his friendship with the son first and with it, the mom starts to see him with other eyes...

@Karmichel Seems to me Yuzuki saw through him, though. She insisted it's okay and he doesn't need to do anything in return, including helping with Asahi's interest in insects. That could very possibly be a not even so subtle way of telling him to keep his distance and not misunderstand anything.

@Kaarme, I think with this chapter the author is leading us to the "son route"... The son will be the key for him to break the ice... Even so, I wish that in the future some form of competition is introduced, like someone showing feelings to Ryo, to make Yuzuki realize she likes him (like a man), something like that. Maybe something happens to Asahi and Ryo is the person that helps him, so she sees him as a dependable and reliable man... Or else, something happens to her and Asahi goes and asks help to Ryo...

@Karmichel She still has her parents (or where they the late husband's parents?), so it's unknown how much help she might need from the outside. I would much prefer that route compared to any rival ones, though. In the first place it seems to me, based on this chapter, that Yuzuki might like Ryo a bit, especially after she saw how well he got along with the kid, but presently she doesn't want to fall for him. So, if someone else showed interest in him, she would likely be happy for him and use that as a reason to force herself to forget him. Nevertheless, a good mangaka ought to be able to come up with quite a few reasons why Ryo could further interact with Asahi and make himself important for the fatherless kid. With how much Yuzuki loves her son, she might find it hard to separate them and thus she would naturally grow closer to Ryo as well.

"It's okay"

I felt that... That sting.

On a side note, Kei cars are awesome.

Now to share a dark secret. I once invited friends over as a child and actually started taking off my clothing once we entered the room completely forgetting they were there. A dark shame/

He shouldn't have said, "your child does not matter to me!" at chapter 1 as if her child was luggage. That probably set him back quite a distance behind the starting point.
