I feel like there were several lore drops this chapter that flew under my radar. Future chapters will probably make everything make sense.

That aside, there is still a marked absence of Aru's backstory. This chapter confirms that she actually is a high schooler, or in any case the eldritch creature equivalent of that. Like some sort of foreign-body–human hybrid thing, whose existence has mostly been under constant Immune surveillance. So, she is rather human at heart!

Also, Yutaka backstory reveal. Abusive parents and orphanhood makes for a combination that would definitely diminish a person's will to live. It makes me wonder if this story will focus on how the two help each other become more normal, despite both of them being fairly messed up in some ways.

This is the chapter I was waiting for.

Glad we got at least justification, if not granular detail, as to why Yutaka acts the way he does. A childhood of being told you were a mistake will make you feel like you are one, and the subsequent death of his mother (seems like dad wasn't in the picture entirely) means he spent the following six years completely alone, with no foundation of love or support to underpin and offset his orphanhood.

I figured it had to be something along those lines, and I did trust the author to give it to us eventually - I am glad we got the broad strokes in the first five chapters to contextualize Yutaka's character and justify his behavior, though.

The Director stating that a best-case scenario involved Aru taking her own life "to save the man she loves" would in my mind necessitate that Yutaka would likely die in that event in a sort of Star-Crossed Lovers fashion--if Aru really feels that in love with Yutaka at whatever point that would happen, I have to imagine those feelings would be going both ways, and Yutaka wouldn't allow such a sacrifice, and could potentially see life as "completely pointless" if he were to be left alone like that.
And woe to the Immune Group and humanity at large if Yutaka decides that the world isn't worth preserving if he can't be happy with Aru in that event, because I could see an argument that they'd just pull the trigger on "closing the cover" on it all completely.

So best case, they can "cure" Aru, make her human, and she and Yutaka can find happiness together. Otherwise, I think it ends like Evangelion, or something.

But, excited to see where it goes.
