It's hard not to think of A Silent Voice when it comes to deaf characters. Just remembering Shouko trying to sing in class is already getting me emotional lol
Yeah probably why she won't talk anymore is because her voice is weird (which is understandable if you know she is deaf), which is the same like Shouko in Koe no Katachi. So im hoping the boy can help her talk again by regaining her confidence.

Enomoto, how exactly did you get the idea to get people to sing a sign language song?

I didn't even think those things really existed. It must be a lot like dancing. Hiragi's gonna be great at it!

Hiragi's sister calling Enomoto a piece of work is funny. It's really true how much he confused her. She always has to process what he says slowly.

Taiyou, bro, she wasn't complimenting you... just look at that expression on her face.

I did wonder a little why Tsukino had hearing aids that didn't seem to do much. This chapter cleared it up. It's to allow her to notice loud sounds for safety purposes. She can't actually process the sounds due to being deaf from birth, but it can at least alert her to danger.

I wonder how this sign language song is going to work... will it have music? The idea baffles me.

Mangaka comment on the first page:
音楽の授業中
気になるのは…?
"In the middle of music class
(They're) curious about...?"

Re: TL note (hopefully I didn't screw up the kanji here either)
関東圏! 林間学校 尾瀬行きがち
Since it's about going on something like a school event trip (summer camp?) to Oze(gahara) (marshland, hiking destination) north of Kanto area, personally it seems a bit weird for a song... but hey, I don't really know anything about the songs they teach in Japanese music classes. Considering the context I'd agree it's likely a song, but probably not a real one.

Ok, they answer my question. So basically the thing in her ear is useless.

I helped someone with their computer once that was a resident advisor at a boarding school for deaf children. I was quite surprised at how much noise the kids made while playing. If you didn't know they were deaf, you'd never guess just from listening to them, they sounded like normal kids. It was a really fascinating experience.

I’d like to add some things to the tl notes

Deafness, just like blindness can be caused by damage to the organ itself (ears, eyes) or the nerves. When someone is born blind or deaf, it’s usually the nerves. I have a friend born with problematic nerves, and she lose her vision over time until it became full blindness. She also explained to me that damaged nerves usually results in “more severe disability” compared to damaged organs. Basically it’s usually a worse problem when the brain cannot process the information received from the organ compared to the organs themselves being damaged.

For people with damaged organs, they can try opting for artificial organs that can send info to their brain to be processed, however, if the problem lies in the nerves, they said that currently there’s no fancy schmancy technology that can substitute the brain (in my country at least)

As always, thanks for the tl. I really like how this manga portrays disability, if you have experience dealing with a deaf person, you can see the subtleties. And it shows how Hiiragi hone her skills to overcome her weaknesses, and her friends supporting her

Disability is the inability to see your ability
