@boag that's kind of my point. I think the author DOES remember their own plot point and that the matron is full of shit, either that or she doesn't know how it truly works despite being a silver that survived. Either way I don't think the one not chosen will simply "vanish" i think the matron does something terrible to whoever isn't chosen that somehow causes prosperity for the family. I think "vanish" is merely a euphemism for that.

I personally think the whole thing is bull and the author realized that the series would continue ad infinitum so they decided to add some drama to and before ending it. However I also predict an equally BS end where he winds up with both and "breaks the curse" or some such...
