As a Ghibli longtime admirer I'm embarassed sometimes from seeing how pushy (and "blind") can be some Ghibli fans online,
and presumably in real life.
Allow me to apologize on behalf of the smooth side of the fandom.

I’ve seen most of the Ghibli Movies, and the words, “to each their own” really is a key word here. Since, imo, no Ghibli movie is inherently bad (some are flawed) but I think there’s a genuine heart to the story in each of them.
My point is, we all enjoy whatever (Ghibli) movie captivates us.

Oof. And here's where I truly part ways with her. Considering I own every damn Ghibli movie, it's safe to say they mean a lot to me.

But yes, to each their own. Of course that's true. However! I think I disagree with one point of hers. If you consider yourself a cinephile, it does imply a willingness to *try* most any kind of film. Doesn't mean you'll like every type of movie or want to keep watching them out of some sense of obligation, but dismissing particular filmmakers or even whole genres without ever giving them a shot is not a great look for a self-identified cinephile.

I can attest to Ghibli movies quality and whatever.

They do however not interest me in the slightest. The feel and tone and point of them is pretty clear across the board and honestly its just not for me. I would be bored watching them. I have seen a few but they left such a weak impression that im not even sure which ones or the names or anything about them.

Isekai Smartphone atleast left me feeling like i had seen a piece of bland garbage. I remember is somewhat. All i remember about Ghibli movies is that i think X was a Ghibli movie.

I do understand her not getting around to watching stuff though. I mean even stuff ill watch and like gets missed because i didn't feel like watching it at the time. Same with games. That being said i do have a pretty strong aversion to certain types of media. My interests need to be in the story or i will be bored off my ass watching a masterpiece.

People always recommend things like Gotham or some other stuff i can't remember. Unfortunately they don't hold what i want and thus i would find myself having more fun watching the CW superhero shows, minus arrow because again, it lacks what i need from a story.

Part of being any sort of phile is having consumed so much of your choice poison that you develop a gut instinct on what you will and will not like. You may not always be correct and will find some surprises but by in large your taste will be seasoned enough to be relied upon.

Genre intolerance is typical of more seasons philes.

I lost faith in this woman. Having not watched a movie or two for one reason or another is one thing, but actively avoiding Ghibli movies like that when you wanted to talk about movies with someone.
What, others aren't allowed make a suggestion and only watch what you want? Selfish.

Those kinds of night are fun, where groups have decided to watch something together, or when two or more people have each chosen a movie to watch during the night. It broadens the horizons for everyone included, even if sometimes those movies are not your cup of tea.

She really did fuck up, she wants people to watch things she wants but won't compromise herself? if nothing else, doing it for Satou could've gotten her some points for getting one back.

It's kinda funny how hypocritical she is but honestly it just feels like she's a contrarian for no reason.

This chapter is a riot because of how much I can completely understand what is happening here. When the gates of hell open, they OPEN.

This is relatable. Almost all of them are 4 or 5s out of 10 for me. They're not bad per say but there's not much to enjoy.

1) lmao I was LITERALLY thinking "I don't think I've watched any ghibli movies either, but there's no real reason behind it" and she says the exact same thing next page

2) personal opinion: I really love seeing bits of iconic american culture through the eyes of a non-american, like there's something hysterical about the fact that the author watched Bad Boys II and because they wouldn't have deeper context, their takeaway from the KKK scene was "oh I guess this is a dumb little costume dumb people wear when they wanna be mad about dumb shit? They put on a pointy hood and attack you when you have different opinions than them, got it." I have zero desire to correct them, I love it.
