On first glance this seems like a do-over of Kyoukai's previous Shiyuu fight. I do hope there will be some new aspect to it, like Kyoukai not just being a Shiyuu, but also a commander with weight and comrades and stuff.

While I do agree with the other commenters on the fact that this series has explicitly had magic as part of its setting from early on, it still must be admitted that I have a strong dislike for shenanigans surrounding the Shiyuu clan. It just seems so out of place in the story.
I suspect the author circled back to them in spite of the ending of Kyoukai‘s arc due to her winning the popularity contest a while back, implying that the readers liked the magic part of the setting.

Also, what are these „teleporting armies“ people are complaining about? When did this happen? Every time an army shows up unexpected, we are explicitly shown how they made their way there a few panels later.
